Our PhD student Ayman Farran attended the VOM2023 conference in Tbilisi, Georgia (https://vom2023.org/en), where the importance of viruses in the biosphere and their impact on various fields was highlighted. As a PhD student studying the microbiome in colon cancer patients in Saudi Arabia, the conference provided valuable insights into the role of viruses (Bacteriophages) in this context.

Of particular significance was the exploration of phage therapy, which holds great potential in treating bacterial infection for different cases. Understanding the interplay between viruses and the microbiome is crucial for developing effective phage-based strategies to target harmful bacteria in patients.

In Saudi Arabia (KSA), where colon cancer cases are increasing, this understanding becomes even more important. By incorporating insights from the conference into my research, I aim to contribute to the advancement of phage therapy in KSA and improve treatment outcomes in the region.
